ISI Certification

To maintain the service and quality of a product is the main job of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). BIS allot the ISI mark to any product as third party guarantee after ensuring its quality, reliability and safety. Another job of BIS is to take action on the consumer complaints after making proper inquiry.



  1. Applicants are required to apply online for grant of Registration.

  2. Test reports issued from labs recognized by BIS under CRS to be submitted with application.

  3. All foreign applicants having no liaison office or branch office located in India have to appoint Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) as per the guidelines issued by BIS in the prescribed nomination form.

  4. Authorized Indian Representatives of applicants located outside India have to submit an affidavit cum undertaking as per Format A/Format Bas mentioned in the guidelines.

  5. All applicants located in India have to submit an affidavit cum undertaking as per Format C.

  6. Fee to be deposited as per the fee structure for CRS.

  7. Fill the application form(Form VI) online.

  8. Hard copies of application to be submitted within 15 days of online submission of the application. In case of non-receipt of hard copies of application within fifteen days of online submission, the application wil be treated as closed.

  9. BIS will scrutinize the applications.

  10. All queries on the application will be raised by BIS online and have to be replied by applicants online.

  11. The shortcomings communicated have to be complied by the applicant without any delay.

  12. The applicant will be responsible for overall delay in Grant of Registration in case of incomplete application and delayed response to queries.

  13. Once query is satisfactorily resolved and affidavit cum undertaking has been submitted, Registration is granted by BIS.

  14. The grant of Registration letter will be uploaded on the applicant’s portal.

  15. Registered manufacturers can request for inclusion of new models of the same product and brand under same registration number. For details on inclusion, click here.

  16. Registration is initially granted for 2 years which has to be renewed after every 2 years.


  • The quality and standards of products with ISI mark are set up as this mark is issued after proper investigation.

  • If you are not satisfied with the quality of product with ISI mark, then the company will give you new product in return to it.

  • An action can be taken against the manufacturer of the product with ISI mark in case of its bad quality.

Standard Mark: 

Licences to use the standard Mark, the familiar Mark, on large number of products are granted to manufacturers under the Certification Mark Scheme operated under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986. The Standard Mark for every product is unique and is notified in the Gazette of India.

Licence Number:

Licence number (a seven digit number, represented as CM/L ——–) is also given along with the Standard Mark. This helps in identifying the unit which has manufactured the product at a specific location.

What Does It Convey:

Conveys that the product carrying the Mark conforms to the relevant Indian Standard certified by BIS.

Who Can Apply: 

  • Manufacturers of any of thirty products notified in Compulsory Registration Order ( dated 03rd October 2012 and dated 14th November 2014 issued by MietY), located in India or outside India can apply for grant of Registration under Compulsory Registration Scheme(CRS).

  • Manufacturers have to apply for separate Registration number for products being manufactured at different locations.

  • Manufacturers have to apply for separate Registration number for each brand being manufactured at the same location.
