YOUR TRADE STARTING POINT

Get your IEC details ready before you file.

An IEC application brings together your business identity, address and banking information. Inconsistent details can interrupt an otherwise straightforward filing.

We help you organise the application, review the supporting record and distinguish a new registration from an update to an existing IEC. Product permissions and shipment compliance need separate consideration.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT NEXT STEP

New application or existing IEC?

New IEC application

Prepare an application for a business that does not already hold an IEC.

IEC detail modification

Review changes to address, bank or other business information.

Existing-profile review

Check the current record and identify the update action needed.

A more organised application process.

Consistent information

Review business details against the supporting record.

Focused checklist

Know which address and banking evidence to prepare.

Correct filing route

Distinguish a new application from an existing-profile change.

Check your entity and trade activity.

Start with the business that will undertake the transaction.

Business identity

Prepare the applicant’s PAN and constitution details.

Existing IEC check

Only one IEC is issued against a single PAN. Check for an existing record first.

Trade requirement

Confirm applicability and any exemption for your activity before filing.

IEC applicability is not identical for every goods and services transaction.

For businesses taking the next trade step.

The right starting point depends on your entity and proposed activity.

  • Merchants planning overseas goods sales
  • Manufacturers exploring export opportunities
  • Businesses planning commercial imports
  • Existing IEC holders with changed business details

Prepare the core business records.

  • PAN and business constitution details
  • Business address proof
  • Cancelled cheque with the entity’s pre-printed name or the prescribed bank certificate
  • Proprietor, partner or director particulars, as applicable
  • Contact details and the authentication information required for filing

Additional supporting documents may be needed for your entity or a specific modification.

SEPARATE THE REQUIREMENTS

IEC is one part of trade readiness.

RequirementWhat to reviewImportant distinction
IEC

Your DGFT entity record and application details.

One IEC is issued per PAN.

Product permissions

Restrictions and licences for the goods being traded.

An IEC is not permission to trade every product.

Shipment preparation

Transaction, banking and customs documentation.

Shipment-specific requirements need separate attention.

Discuss the product, destination and transaction before relying on a general registration checklist.

PRACTICAL TRADE SUPPORT

Move forward with a clearer IEC checklist.

Trade Innovation helps you organise the filing around your actual business details.

Start with the existing record

Check whether you need registration or a modification.

Document consistency

Review the information across the application and supporting files.

Clear scope

Separate IEC support from product and shipment requirements.

IEC questions before you apply.

Understand the application scope before planning your first transaction.
Can I obtain another IEC for the same PAN?

DGFT provides for only one IEC against one PAN. If a record already exists, review whether it needs to be linked, updated or modified.

Which bank document should I prepare?

DGFT’s application guidance specifies a cancelled cheque bearing the entity’s pre-printed name or a bank certificate in the prescribed format.

Does an IEC cover every branch?

DGFT guidance states that an IEC covers the applicant’s branches, divisions, units and factories. Keep the relevant entity details accurate.

Does an IEC allow every product to be imported or exported?

No. Product restrictions, licences and other transaction requirements must be checked separately.

Can you guarantee immediate issuance?

No. Matching documents and successful portal verification are important, and some cases require authority review.

How will you quote the cost?

We first confirm whether you need a fresh application or an existing-record change, then explain the applicable government and professional charges.
