STARTUP REGISTRATION — BUSINESS SETUP
Review criteria for your chosen route.
Explain your work with clear facts.
PLAN YOUR BUSINESS FOUNDATION
DPIIT startup recognition is separate from incorporating a company or registering another eligible entity. The application should accurately explain the business, its stage and the basis on which it meets the current recognition framework. We help organise that information and distinguish recognition from tax benefits, grants and investment decisions.
SUPPORT FOR YOUR SETUP
Check the entity type, incorporation date and applicable turnover conditions.
Organise a factual explanation of the product, service, process or scalable model.
Check the particulars and supporting records before the entity submits its application.
Review the criteria in force for the intended route.
Describe the actual work without unsupported claims.
Align registration particulars and application information.
The correct route depends on the people, activity and location involved.
Review the qualifying company, registered partnership, LLP or cooperative route.
Check the current conditions, including the separate DeepTech provisions where relevant.
Review the innovation, improvement or scalable-model basis and the restriction on reconstructed businesses.
Additional checks may apply to regulated activities, overseas participants or special circumstances.
Choose the structure around your ownership and operating plans.
This is a starting checklist. Final requirements depend on your profile and the relevant filing procedure. Do not submit identity documents through the general enquiry form.
Review the entity and the intended recognition category.
Stage 1
Describe the offering, progress and relevant supporting evidence.
Stage 2
Check consistency with the entity’s underlying records.
Stage 3
The entity submits through the official route and responds to any required clarification.
Stage 4
Depends on complete entity records and a substantiated business explanation.
The competent authority reviews the application; approval is not guaranteed.
Tax benefits, schemes and funding have their own application conditions.
UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE
| Step | Purpose | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Entity formation | Establish the legal business structure. | Does not automatically provide DPIIT recognition. |
| DPIIT recognition | Seek recognition under the startup framework. | Does not automatically secure every benefit. |
| Benefit or scheme application | Apply for a particular support measure. | Eligibility and approval are scheme-specific. |
The recognition framework changed in February 2026. Check the current notification rather than relying on older ₹100-crore summaries.
